What Van der Valk Season 4 is About
Piet Van der Valk and his trusty team, including his partner-in-crime-solving Lucienne (Maimie McCoy), Hendrik (Darrell d’Silva), Eddie (Azan Ahmed), and more, are back in action in Amsterdam for an all-new season jam-packed with even more heart-pounding action than ever before. In addition to solving murder cases, Van der Valk has to deal with a romance from his past resurfacing as well as find a way to make one of his beloved team members confront their own mortality. Can their team—rather, their found family—survive what life throws at them next?

What the Cast of Van der Valk Season 4 Had to Say
When asked what viewers can look forward to in the upcoming fourth season, the cast all agreed—Season 4 may be the biggest and best, yet.
Marc Warren (Piet Van der Valk): “[Season 4] felt like a bigger show,” the series’ lead said when reflecting on filming the latest season. “It seemed like we had more crew and there was more going on. In Episode 1 in particular it was quite an intricate show, lots of cars and explosions and stunts, and it felt like the whole show had gone up a level…. There’s a lot of reference to family in the scripts. That’s repeated quite a few times—I’d go as far as to say it’s integral to the storyline this year…It’s not a team, it’s a family—and Piet as a character prioritizes that family above everything else.”
Maimie McCoy (Lucienne Hassell): “The whole [season] has a totally different feel to it. It feels like it’s been elevated,” McCoy explained. “As all the characters are developing, the scope, scale, and ambition has gone up another notch… The strength of the show has always been Chris and Maria creating these stories, and the elements, the characters that are woven in, the red herrings, the paths you go down, all of these twists and turns. They were always very strong, but I think they’ve taken it to another level.”
Darrell d’Silva (Hendrik Davie): As far as d’Silva’s own character, Hendrik, is concerned, Season 4 marks a major life change for him and perhaps for the team as a whole. “Something happens with his health, he self-diagnoses and draws his own conclusions… being confronted with his own mortality is a bit of an overload.”
Meanwhile, for viewers wondering if they’ll get a chance to see Hendrik play his saxophone again this season, d’Silva confirmed that the saxophone will indeed be making an appearance. But not only will viewers get a glimpse at Henrik’s talents, but they’ll get a chance to hear some of d’Silva’s own talents, as well!
“There’s also some music on the boat where we have a bit of a party. I asked if I could contribute something…so the guy who played drums in Season 2 when me and him were playing a gig in a club in Amsterdam—that’s my ex-band partner from the ’80s, Justin, who lives in The Hague. So Justin and I created a piece of music just for that scene on the boat.”
Loes Haverkort (Lena Linderman): As far as romance, Haverkort shared that Piet and her character Lena are finally in a happier space these days. “Their relationship has been up and down, but this [season] they are really relaxed with each other, happy in each other’s company. They’re having a real relationship now…”
But is it happily ever after? Haverkort also teased, “There is a bit of a threat coming this series with an ex-girlfriend coming into [their] lives.”
Azan Ahmed: “This season, you see Eddie grow as a detective and as a sergeant. He’s the first one to throw himself into danger, and that often leads him into trouble—but his heart is always in the right place to solve the case.”
Playing a character like Eddie has also given Ahmed the chance to live out part of a childhood dream. “I loved doing the stunts—it didn’t feel like work. I grew up wanting to be just like Jackie Chan,” he explained. “To be able to get to do that this season was incredible.”

Van der Valk and his team return to investigate new crimes in Amsterdam. In addition to solving murder cases, Van der Valk has to deal with a past romance resurfacing as well as find a way to make one of his beloved team members confront their own mortality.
Season 4 | Episode 2: Safe in Amsterdam: Part 2
Sunday, September 22 at 10/9c
After a whistleblower is murdered under police protection, the team are called in to make sure the second whistleblower makes it to court to testify and take down a criminal empire. Van der Valk is conflicted when he finds out the protection officer in charge of the murdered whistleblower is a former flame of his.
Season 4 | Episode 3: Hope in Amsterdam: Part 1

The team are called in when an environmental campaigner is murdered on the eve of a global conference. One of several potential suspects would appear to be Cobie Stegenga, a famous singer who went missing, presumed dead. Van Der Valk connects with Cobie’s father to find out the truth.
