For us, it was important for people to understand that this film was about a contradiction.
A contradiction between how do we want to relate to animals and how do we relate to animals.
The fact that medicine today sacrifices animals to save humans.
On one hand, we have a laboratory that is like a science fiction scenario, with scientists dressed as astronauts working with lethal viruses.
And on the other side of the window, but literally on the other side of the window, you have a shepherd with his herd doing a job that it is believed that started 10,000 years ago.
We also understood that our film was something that didn't have to take a point of view, because we, I mean, me as the director, but also the co-writers, had a contradictory feeling about this.
We don't want animals to be sacrificed, but we understand that science needs this to advance medicine.
So it's not an easy answer to say, “Okay, I am against.
I am for it.” We as urban people want to have a, we are building an idea of nature as a place with no conflict.
We want nature to be beautiful and to be peaceful.
And nature is not this.
And I think it's something that we have to deal with because the more we idealize nature, the more we widen the gap between us and nature.
